Memorials For the Future Competition

Sponsored by the National Park Service and National Capital Planning Commission in collaboration with Van Allen Institute, this competition seeks alternatives to Washington DC's traditional approach to commemoration. Three teams will receive a $15,000 stipend to participate in a research and design process to re-envision how we create memorials. Multidisciplinary team submissions are encouraged. Learn more here.

2016 AIA/Academy of Architecture for Health (AAH) Healthcare Design Awards

The AIA/AAH Healthcare Design Awards showcase the best of healthcare building design, healthcare planning and healthcare design-oriented research. The awards highlight the trends of healthcare facilities and the future direction of these facilities. Projects should exhibit conceptual strength that solve aesthetic, civic, urban, and social concerns as well as the requisite functional and sustainability concerns of a hospital. The AIA/AAH will recognize awarded projects and respective firms for their contribution to the healthcare environment at the AIA/ACHA Summer Leadership Summit and AIA National Convention. In addition, the projects will be featured in the AIA/AAH healthcare design awards publication.

2016 AIA Small Project Practitioners Pop-Up Project Design Competition

Now Accepting Entries

The AIA Small Project Practitioners invites architects and architecture students to submit design ideas to the 2016 SPP Small Project Design Competition – POP-UP 2016: Tactical Urbanism – Creating Place. In this unique design competition, submitters are asked to: Create a sense of place within the confines of a 10’-0” x 10’-0” x 10’-0” space.

Prizes include $1,000.00 provided by AIA SPP Knowledge Community, round-trip airline ticket to the 2016 AIA National Convention in Philadelphia, convention hotel accommodations for 1 person for 3 nights.

Award winning projects will be recognized in AIA publications and electronic media, including the SPP Journal and website.

2016 AIA AAJ Justice Facilities Review Awards Program

The AIA Academy of Architecture for Justice is pleased to open the call for submissions for the 2016 Justice Facilities Review!

The Justice Facilities Review documents best practices in planning and design for Justice Architecture. Functionality and community impact, sustainability and economic feasibility, as well as aesthetic achievements are essential elements for identifying the success of these projects. Your submission should provide sufficient information to help the jurors understand the unique aspects of the project and the role that the architect and the team played in the development of the solution.

The CAE Design Awards is an internationally recognized marketplace of ideas. Through this forum the committee disseminates quality ideas on educational facility planning and design to clients, architects, and the public. As how we educate ourselves continues to evolve, we must evaluate and measure our successes, and have an arena in which to test ideas. This awards program is an opportunity to engage in critical evaluation and experimentation, not as an end in itself, but always in the context of our clients and their needs.

2016 Deadline & Entry Fee
The deadline for submissions is January 19, 2016 before 5:00 PM Eastern. All deadlines are strictly observed.

Members: $500.00 for each entry
Nonmembers: $750.00 for each entry

2015 AIA Maine COTE Awards Due

The AIA Maine COTE Awards program recognizes exemplary and innovative built projects that establish a standard of over-all design excellence that creatively integrates sustainable design strategies, demonstrating their benefits while educating and inspiring the profession and the public.
 
Timeline: 

  • Submissions due on November 20, 2015
  • Jury review on December 2, 2015
  • Winners announced at the December Annual Meeting (date and location tba).

Eligibility:

  • All registered architects living in the State of Maine are invited to submit their completed built projects, regardless of project size, budget, style, building type, or location. Entries are welcomed and encouraged from both established and new practitioners and designers, and from small firms and large.
  • Projects must be built and completed within the past 5 years. 

Judging Criteria: Each entry will be judged for the success with which the project has met its individual requirements, with particular emphasis on design excellence. Projects will be evaluated on a broad and inclusive definition of design quality that includes performance, aesthetics, community connection and resilience, and stewardship of the natural environment.

Small Project Award Program Due

AIA National is proud to present the twelfth annual Small Project Award Program to recognize the work of small project practitioners and to promote excellence in small project design. 

This Award Program strives to raise public awareness of the value and design excellence that architects bring to all project types, including renovations and additions, no matter the limits of size and budget. 

This year’s Small Project Award theme, SMALL GESTURE BIG IMPACT, intends to recognize projects that make a noticeable impact with measured and thoughtful gestures through architecture. This may include small interventions or larger gestures on the built environment.
