Get your AIA Credits!!   This one-week course invites current practitioners and experienced students to participate in a hands-on, consensus-based design/build experience. The course covers critical skills in facilitating consensus-based design and fundamental carpentry skills. Students engage in a collaborative and interactive process of designing and building a project.

Throughout the program students will experience the design/build feedback loop as they develop designs, collaborate with peers, prototype, and ultimately create! Experience with sketching, model-building, and simple carpentry is encouraged, but the class will also be structured to develop and improve participant skills in each of those areas as well.

This class is a great fit for practitioners interested in reconnecting with the process of making and their work, or for students looking to understand what it takes to bring an idea from concept to reality through small scale building and collaborative design.

At the end of the course, students will know how to:

  • complete a small design/build project from start to finish

  • confidently use a variety of power tools

  • facilitate and participate in a consensus-based design process

  • sketch and model projects

  • interpret and modify designs and documents for construction
