BRIBURN
Architectural Designer
BRIBURN is a small studio located in the Old Port of Portland, Maine, dedicated to collaborative, environmentally conscious, innovative design strategies. BRIBURN is seeking an architectural designer with 1-3 years of experience that is ready to join us pursuing the future of sustainable, low-carbon architectural design.
You will join a tight-knit, collaborative, and passionate design team as a junior architectural designer, with ample opportunity to grow based on your talent, initiative, and enthusiasm. Every member of our design team plays an active role in developing design presentations, producing project details, conducting research, and coordinating with the internal project design team, clients, contractors, and consultants throughout the design and construction process.
Working closely with the firm's principals and senior staff, a junior architectural designer will contribute to all phases of project development while also taking ownership of tasks independently as experience grows. Proficiency in Revit, architectural detailing, and construction documentation is preferred.
At BRIBURN, we don't just design buildings; we create artful structures that reduce the negative impact of architecture on the planet. Our core values drive everything we do, from our commitment to integrity, leadership in sustainable design, innovation, community involvement, and listening to the unique needs of our clients. We maintain a healthy and thriving office where everyone feels they belong.
What We're Looking For:
• Design Excellence – You have a strong eye for good design and enjoy developing thoughtful, creative solutions to complex problems.
• Commitment to Sustainable Design – You're excited by the role architecture can play in addressing climate change and are eager to stay engaged with evolving building science, materials, and sustainable design practices.
• Initiative – You take ownership of your work, anticipate challenges, and look for opportunities to improve both projects and processes.
• Adaptability – Our studio values thoughtful work over unnecessary urgency, but you'll often balance multiple projects and priorities. You can stay organized, communicate clearly, and remain calm when plans evolve. You collaborate well with others, welcome feedback and direction from senior staff, and contribute to a supportive team environment.
• Attention to Detail – You are highly detail-oriented, manage your time effectively, and can work efficiently across multiple tasks without losing sight of quality.
Your Qualifications:
• Required: Completion of a five-year architectural degree program and/or master’s in architecture.
• Required: Proven ability and proficiency in digital architecture software for production and 3D presentation - Revit, Twin Motion, and Adobe Suite.
• Required: Desire to grow and learn new processes with a strong interest in high performance and sustainable design.
• Desired: Some knowledge of and understanding of sustainable design, such as operational carbon calculations, lifecycle analysis, designing for biodiversity, high-performance building envelope design, and energy modelling.
• Desired: 1-3 years in an architecture office.
• Desired: Craft skills, modelmaking, 3D Printing.
Benefits:
We believe in rewarding hard work and dedication. As part of our team, you'll enjoy:
• Simple IRA retirement plan with employer match.
• Paid time off (PTO) and paid holidays.
• Professional Development Allowance
• Company Healthcare plan.
• Discretionary Bonuses
• Flexible work personal life balance.
• Compensation commensurate with experience.
BRIBURN is an affirmative action and equal employment opportunity employer, committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and equitable team. We encourage you to join us in our mission to create exceptional, sustainable, and inspiring architecture.
