ROLE:

AAmp Studio is seeking a Senior Project Architect / Project Manager to join our Portland studio and

take a leadership role in the design and delivery of several significant projects, including large-scale

adaptive reuse, hospitality, and ground-up multifamily residential work.

This is a senior position for an architect with substantial experience leading complex projects through

design, documentation, permitting, and construction. The successful candidate will work closely with the

studio principals while taking responsibility for day-to-day project leadership, including client

communication, consultant coordination, project planning, technical execution, and mentorship of junior

staff.

We are looking for someone who combines strong design judgment with the technical knowledge,

organization, and communication skills required to move ambitious projects successfully from concept

through construction.

AAmp Studio is a cross-border architecture and design practice based in Portland, Maine and Toronto,

Ontario. Our work spans architecture, interiors, and branding, with a particular focus on housing, adaptive

reuse, and hospitality.

We approach architecture as an act of stewardship, working carefully within new and existing buildings,

communities, and cultural contexts to create spaces that are durable, thoughtful, and deeply rooted in

place. Through clarity, restraint, and collaboration, we transform inherited conditions into contemporary

environments that support everyday life, collective memory, and long-term use.

AAmp is a collaborative, design-focused studio. Senior team members play an active role not only in the

execution of projects, but also in shaping studio culture, mentoring emerging professionals, and

contributing to the continued development of the practice.

RESPONSIBILITIES

● Lead complex architectural projects from design through construction, with particular emphasis

on adaptive reuse, hospitality, and multifamily residential work

● Serve as a primary day-to-day point of contact for clients, consultants, contractors, and regulatory

agencies

● Develop and manage project schedules, work plans, deliverables, and internal team

responsibilities

● Lead multidisciplinary consultant coordination across structural, MEP/FP, civil, landscape,

interiors, and specialty disciplines

● Direct and mentor junior architectural staff while maintaining responsibility for the quality and

coordination of project work

● Lead the development and coordination of drawing sets through Design Development,

Construction Documents, permitting, bidding, and Construction Administration

● Guide technical decision-making related to building envelope, assemblies, systems integration,

accessibility, life safety, code, and constructability

● Lead planning, zoning, historic preservation, and building permit submissions and coordinate

effectively with reviewing agencies

● Review project documentation for design intent, technical accuracy, coordination, and

completeness

● Lead and participate in client, consultant, agency, and construction meetings

● Manage projects during construction, including submittals, RFIs, field observations, change

documentation, and resolution of construction issues

● Work closely with studio principals on project staffing, project strategy, client relationships, and

overall project delivery

● Contribute to the mentorship and professional development of junior staff and to the broader

culture of the studio

● Participate in marketing, proposals, interviews, and business development efforts as appropriate

QUALIFICATIONS

● 10+ years of full-time professional architectural experience preferred, with demonstrated

responsibility for leading complex projects

● Professional architectural licensure preferred

● Proven experience as a Project Architect and/or Project Manager responsible for projects through

Construction Documents and Construction Administration

● Experience with large-scale adaptive reuse, multifamily residential, hospitality, mixed-use, or

similarly complex building types

● Demonstrated ability to manage multidisciplinary consultant teams and coordinate complex

building systems

● Strong knowledge of architectural detailing, building assemblies, codes, accessibility

requirements, and construction practices

● Experience navigating planning, zoning, permitting, and other agency approvals

● Strong design judgment and the ability to maintain design intent through technical development

and construction

● Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor architectural staff and effectively delegate work across a

project team

● Excellent client-facing, verbal, written, and organizational skills

● Ability to manage multiple priorities, anticipate project needs, identify problems early, and drive

issues toward resolution

● Advanced proficiency in Revit, Bluebeam, Procore and Adobe Creative Suite

● Working knowledge of Enscape or comparable visualization software preferred

● Self-motivated, accountable, collaborative, and comfortable working with a high degree of

independence

THE POSITION

This is an opportunity to take a meaningful leadership role within a small, design-focused practice working

on complex projects at a significant scale. The Senior Project Architect / Project Manager will work

directly with AAmp’s principals and have substantial responsibility for project delivery, client relationships, team leadership, and the continued growth of our Portland studio.


This is a full-time, in-person position based in Portland, Maine. Candidates must be able to work from our

Portland studio; this is not a fully remote position.
