AIA Maine Visits Capitol Hill to Advocate for Architects and to Attend the 2024 AIA Leadership Summit

In February, AIA Maine President Gavin Engler and Executive Director Jeannette Schram attended the AIA National Leadership Summit in Washington, DC. This yearly event gathers architects from across the nation to advocate for policies that shape the future of architecture and our communities.

We had the opportunity to meet with staff from both Senators Collins and King’s offices as well as Representatives Pingree and Golden’s offices to discuss issues important to the profession:

• Promoting bipartisan legislation through H.R. 964/S. 366 to ensure local community input in the design of federal buildings.

• The repeal of the harmful research and development amortization tax provision through H.R. 7024

• Eliminating arbitrary fee limitations on A/E Federal Contracts to address growing scope and complexity of federal projects.

In addition to meeting with Maine’s delegation, we had the opportunity to learn about the latest policy issues, meet with colleges from across the country, and take in some sights.
