Thanks to All Who Joined us for ARCHtober Fest 2019

On October 15th, AIA Maine members and friends gathered for our fourth ARCHtober Fest at The Pub at Baxter Brewing Company in Lewiston.

The event, hosted by AIA Maine’s Emerging Professionals and Women in Design Committees acted as a launch party for our upcoming ARE Workshop / Study Group Series. Joanna Shaw of Winkelman Architecture was on hand to discuss the program.

Architects Thomas Platz, AIA and Gabrielle Russell, LEED AP of Platz Associates led a tour of the Baxter Brewing Company brewing facilities as well as their cannery operations. The Baxter Brewing Company is currently Maine’s third-largest distributor of beer.

After touring the brewery, the group viewed the Bates Mill space that will soon house the expanded offices of San Francisco-based private health care IT firm, Grand Rounds. The 24,000 square foot office is designed to be open-concept with plenty of small meeting rooms and spaces to make private phone calls.

Working on the Bates Mill complex since 1996, Platz Associates has redeveloped about 72% of the mill's developable space with plans to develop more in the future. The redevelopment efforts have brought approximately 2,000 jobs back to the complex. As Platz Associates continues their work, they hope the 1,200,000 square foot mill complex will employ as many people as the Bates Mill Company did during its heyday, over 5,000 people.

Thank you to Platz Associates and The Pub at Baxter Brewing Company for hosting us and sharing your work with our members.

Do you have a project you would like to share with our membership? AIA Maine would love to host a tour!
