Course Description
This tour of the local non-profit, Preble Street's Teen Center and Shelter presents a complex renovation of a commercial building with multiple occupancy types, including assembly and residential dormitories, located in Portland, Maine and will review the technical, programmatic, and coordination challenges encountered from design through construction. The session explores how existing site conditions, various wall and ceiling assemblies, and budget considerations were addressed while delivering a safe and healthy space influenced by trauma-informed healing design principles. Attendees will gain practical strategies applicable to complex programs and renovation projects in a cold-climate region.
