Glass collisions kill more than 1 billion birds in the United States each year, and Maine is one of the states working to address the problem. In 2023, the State Legislature passed LD 670 -- later codified as Public Law 2023, Chapter 221 -- which calls on the Maine Department of
Administrative and Financial Services' (DAFS’s) Bureau of General Services to work with stakeholders to develop guidelines to integrate bird collision risk management into public improvements.
Many of you were a part of the stakeholder process for these Guidelines, which are now final. See attached Guidelines, as well as a one-pager developed by Maine Audubon.
To help launch the Guidelines, Maine Audubon is hosting a Webinar on Tuesday, June 24 at 11am. Register Here. Experts will be on hand to explain the Guidelines and answer questions.
