Learning Objectives:
Learn the origin of wood fiber insulation, available for more than two decades in Europe, now accounting for nearly $1B in sales annually on the continent. Long coveted by the specifier community, but too costly to import for day-to-day use, wood fiber insulation is finally being manufactured this year by Maine-based TimberHP, learn the origin story.
TimberHP walking mill tour will show participants how the raw material (wood chips), "feedstock" arrives and is treated prior to production; up-close observation and explanation of plant equipment as the various products, TimberFill, TimberBatt and TimberBoard are manufactured. A visit to the onsite Quality and Assurance lab to show how borate additives work to address fire, bugs and water.
Product Knowledge Workshop - TimberFill (alternative to cellulous; TimberBatt (alternative to fiberglass and mineral wool) and TimberBoard (alternative to foam and mineral wool continuous insulation. Deep dive into the science behind wood fiber insulation which provides code compliant options for both thermal and sound applications for building Types III, IV, and V. This segment is presented in both classroom and interactive lab settings. Participants get a chance to have a hands-on experience and see mock-up wall assemblies with all three products installed.
Knowledge of Life Cycle Analysis modeling and how it is used to help better understand building materials impact on the environment. Conversation about the importance of understanding Embodied Carbon Emissions and how product selection moving forward can help reduce its impact on the environment.
