DOWNEAST TO EAST AFRICA:
ENGAGING COMMUNITIES THROUGH DESIGN
Pamela W. Hawkes FAIA is a national leader in historic preservation and the integration of contemporary design within historic settings, through twenty-six years as Principal with Ann Beha Architects in Boston. T. Scott Teas AIA led TFH Architects for more than 40 years. His work spans a wide range of building types, from affordable housing to four-star hotels, public ice arenas to art museums.
In 2013, Pamela and Scott created Scattergood Design, a full-service architectural firm based in Portland that empowers clients and colleagues to imagine and realize a more harmonious world through design. Since that time, they have collaborated with the NGO Africa Schoolhouse to design and construct a secondary school for 400 girls near Mwanza, Tanzania’s second largest city. They will share insights on social and environmental sustainability, as well as realizing great design solutions in challenging situations.
