Every two years since 1985, AIA Maine has sponsored a juried review of Maine architecture. The jurors are nationally recognized peers who, after reviewing and critiquing the entries, select a few projects for recognition. The program has provided AIA Maine with the records of approximately 500 juried projects. The archive has become a fundamental record of the evolution of contemporary architecture in Maine.
Our 2008 jurors, Timothy Love AIA, Andrea Leers AIA and David Hingstrom AIA, conferred one Award for Excellence in Architecture and four Honor Awards from thirty-nine submissions. Three additional projects were noted by the jury for their important community, programmatic and social purposes. All of the submissions are represented on our Design Awards 08 website.
Planning for our 2010 Design Awards program begins this year. A Call for Entries will be issued in the Fall, submissions will be due in March 2010 and our Design Awards Banquet will be held in June 2010. Information will be posted on this page as it becomes available.
AIA Maine is launching its first Ideas Competition in 2009. Open to architectural students, graduates and professionals, this biennial competition will solicit concept designs for a public project in Maine.
Ideas Competition 09 solicits designs for the East End Waterside Facilities in Portland. More information is available at the Competition webpage (Registered Users Only).
