Call for Submissions: 2018 AIA Upjohn Research Initiative Grants

The Upjohn program funds up to six research grants of $15,000-$30,000 per recipient annually for projects completed in a 6- to 18-month period. The research should relate to architectural knowledge that can be applied within the discipline. One grant will be dedicated to design and health principles.

Stewardson Keefe LeBrun Travel Grant!

The AIA New York | Center for Architecture is currently accepting applications for the Stewardson Keefe LeBrun Travel Grant!

Application Deadline: Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at 5:00pm 

Purpose: To further the personal and professional development of an architect in early or mid-career through travel. Travel plans should be focused on a selected topic of interest to the individual, rather than as part of a larger humanitarian or institutional endeavor.

Award: $15,000

Eligibility: Applicants must be US citizens with a professional degree in architecture as well as full-time practitioners, either licensed or unlicensed. Academics may apply, but must also be practicing architects.

Northeast Chapter of the Civita Institute Fellowships Due

The Northeast Chapter of the Civita Institute welcomes mid-career architects, artists, planners, preservationists, designers, writers and other arts professionals, to apply for one and two month fellowships for research and independent study in the Italian hill town of Civita di Bagnoregio. Northeast Chapter fellowships are open to residents of ME, NH, VT, MA, RI, CT, NY, NJ and PA.

The Academy of Architecture for Health (AAH) and the American College of Healthcare Architects (ACHA) Scholarship

The Academy of Architecture for Health (AAH) and the American College of Healthcare Architects (ACHA) will sponsor two intern architects to attend the 2016 Summer Leadership Summit (SLS). The SLS is an annual gathering in Chicago of approximately 175 leaders in healthcare design from the U.S. and around the world. Attendees convene for two days of presentations and panel discussions that address the future of healthcare from the government, healthcare organization and design community perspectives. The SLS will be held at the Renaissance Blackstone Chicago Hotel, July 22‐24, 2016.

Each selected intern architect will receive up to a $1,000 reimbursement to cover air travel, hotel room costs, and incidentals. Registration for the summit and tour fees will be complimentary. Scholarship candidates should electronically submit application materials to dpaul@aia.org by April 22, 2016.

"Speak Up," AIA’s New Annual Advocacy Leadership Event, Offers Scholarships

Speak Up is the AIA’s new annual advocacy leadership event. Debuting in July 2016, Speak Up will be three exciting, dynamic and inspiring days where architects will get new tools and strategies to advocate for their profession and their communities.

Speak Up will feature advocacy training and interactive discussions on how architects can better engage in the legislative and political arenas at the federal, state and local levels. It will bring together AIA members from across the Institute to share winning strategies, learn from political professionals and find new ways to mobilize members to advocate in their communities. And it will offer attendees the option of using their skills to advocate for the AIA’s agenda on Capitol Hill.

Scholarships: In 2016, the AIA will offer up to 60 scholarships for AIA members to attend the inaugural Speak Up event. AIA members interested in scholarships will be asked to fill out a short application form to help gauge their interest in and commitment to becoming an AIA advocacy leader. The scholarships will cover the registration fee, hotel nights and transportation to and from Washington, DC for the event. The applications will be reviewed by AIA National staff and select member and staff representatives of components.

AIA/AAH List of Healthcare Design’s Best Under 40

The U40 List is nomination oriented recognition to celebrate individuals making a significant contribution to the advancement of health facilities design. Each year up to two individuals will be selected to have their names added to the distinguished U40 List. The U40 List recipients will receive a $1000 Travel stipend to attend the Summer Leadership Summit in Chicago on July 22‐23, 2016.

To nominate an individual making a significant impact on healthcare design who will be Under 40 years of age on July 22th, 2016 and has worked on healthcare related projects for at least the past five years, submit a 1‐2 page recommendation in pdf form to nextgeneration.aia@gmail.com by April 1st, 2016.
